Key findings

The United Kingdom has the largest number of SWIFT/BIC codes in this dataset, followed by Germany, the United States, India and Italy. The distribution reflects the concentration of international banking and payment infrastructure in major financial centers.

Individual bank institutions vary widely. Some global banks have hundreds of branch-level codes, while smaller local institutions may have only one code. This is why country totals alone do not fully describe cross-border payment routing.

What the data includes

The dataset contains bank identifiers, bank names, ISO country codes, cities, branch descriptions, addresses, postcodes and connection status where available. Records are normalized and deduplicated by SWIFT/BIC code. The full methodology and limitations are documented separately.

For payment decisions, users should always verify the latest code with the receiving bank. Bank mergers, branch changes and discontinued codes can make historical data obsolete.
